Bovada Poker Room Review

Bovado Poker Review

It’s happening more and more. Online poker rooms are rebranding for the U.S. market. That’s what Bodog recently did when it created Bovada Poker. The name Bovada is a combination of the words Bodog and Nevada (as in Las Vegas, Nevada).

For those U.S. players who were members of Bodog Poker, their accounts have been transferred to Bovada. Bovada Poker is exclusive to U.S. based players only and that means there’s a little bit of a wrinkle in the system that favors those in the U.S. Bodog players may not compete in games that are U.S. based but U.S. players can compete versus those on Bodog.

The Bovada Site

What would you expect from Bodog? You expect a site that looks clean, sleek and classy. That’s what you get with Bovada Poker —rich, royal tones, dark highlights and clean, crisp play. This is a great looking site and the contrast in colors and tones, well displayed cards and easy to read features such as chat, bids, blinds, stats and more make it a joy on which to play.

The entire site is very easy to navigate and setting your preferences is as simple as can be. It’s also very easy to find the type of game you want to play. Bovada categorizes everything clearly and makes sequencing through games effortless.

Types of Games, Stakes & Players

There’s a good collection of games at Bovada Poker. You’ll be able to enjoy Texas Holdem, Omaha, 7 Card Stud and 5 Card Stud. Cash tables offer stakes that start at $0.02/$0.05 and go to $30.00/$60.00. Buy-ins for tournaments also have a wide range. They are as low as $1.00 and go up to $162.00. The highest buy-in is for the weekly $100K guaranteed tournaments. There are also plenty of freerolls and rebuys.

If you’re used to playing at Bodog, then you’ll find no difference in the games on-hand. There are plenty of fish and loose players for the shark and more avid player.

After the events of April 15, 2011 when the Department of Justice closed down three major poker sites in the U.S., Bodog Poker saw an increase in new members and traffic. Numbers grew through the rest of the year. It’s expected that this U.S. players only site will see more American players joining. The busiest times at Bovada Poker see 2,000 players at the cash tables. This site is the fifth most active stand alone poker room on the Internet.

Initial Deposit Bonus & Sign Up

The bonus for first time deposits is 100% on up to $1,000.  To get your bonus simply sign up, download the software and fund your account. Your bonus is released in segments as you earn Bovada Poker Points while you play. Players have up to 60 days to claim their entire bonus. Note: the site is not Mac friendly. Perhaps this will change, as the Mac market in the U.S. is very large. The majority of people in the U.S. who own laptops worth $1,200 or more use Macs.

In order to collect their bonus, players accumulate Bovada Poker Points as they play. Points are awarded for contributing to the rake, through tournament fees and for simply playing at a table. Players are given 1 point for every hour they spend playing (up to 500 per month); this is in addition to points for the rake or fees. Once points accumulate to a certain level, a percentage of your bonus is released. Later, points can be used to earn money that players may convert into buy-ins and use in cash games.

Customer Support and Banking

The poker site has made special provisions for U.S. players to make deposits, as various methods to fund online poker accounts used in other countries are illegal in the U.S. They have made the process as easy as possible. Withdrawals are also simple.

Customer support is excellent. The phone number for customer support is 1-888-263-0000. Less than 1% of customers have to wait for someone to assist them. Also, email support is very quick. The average email response takes 13 minutes. The staff is well trained, knowledgeable and multilingual.

Final Word on Bovada Poker

Bovada Poker is a fine site that should have a bright future. It looks great, has a lot of variety and is well supported. The initial deposit bonus is generous and easy to claim and there is plenty of traffic and many different games and stakes from which to choose. This is a welcoming site designed just for the U.S. poker player.
