When the main event started this weekend, Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi started the table with a 7th placed chip stack at 14 million. As usual, Mike was able to increase his standings with solid play and some quality pressure play.
Mike had a quick knock out over Matthew Jarvis which brought him to the chip lead for much of the final table. It looked as though Mizrachi was going to hold tight until there was some smart play by Joseph Cheong who brought Mizrachi back down to the level of the rest of the players.
The table was down to six players when Mike’s good friend John Racener came in with an open all in raise. Mike seemed as though he wanted to fold his hand, but the rewards that would follow that win was too much for him to let go. He quickly found himself at the wrong end of Racener’s Ace-King going against his Ace-Eight.
There was still hope when Mizrachi paired on the flop, but a King on the turn left Racener with the hand win. Soon after Mizrachi went all in on a Queen high flop. The tourney winner, Jonathon Duhamel, saw his opportunity and called with a pair of aces. This hand was the end of Mike’s Main Event run leaving him in 5th place overall.
He had a great run through the tournament and ended his World Series Of Poker run, but also led him to move up to 7th place on the all-time tournament winnings list. Congratulations Mike for your outstanding play.
