The online poker community got a bit of a shock on Thursday, when UB announced both Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth have left the team.
While the sponsorship has ended, reports from UB confirm they parted ways amicably and UB wishes the best for both Phil and Annie. After several years of being the notable faces of UB.net, Annie and Phil are now open to the next sponsor who chooses to pick them up.
Phil Hellmuth appeared at his last UB event on December 18th, the Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em for HospiceCare in Madison, Wisconsin. The event was a great success and at that time neither Phil nor UB made any statement the partnership was at its end.
There was speculation this year that Phil was ready to part ways from UB, when UB gear and logos failed to make an appearance wherever Phil was playing. He may have been distancing himself at this point, although he did not make any statements.
Joe Sebok of UB recently blogged, “These two legends in our industry have, quite literally, helped to build UB into what it is today. Phil and Annie have been the face of the company for years now, and we thank them for their unbelievable contributions and bid them the utmost in success moving forward. With that said, we look forward to 2011, and I believe it will be the finest year that we have ever had at UB.”
Sebok has plans to bring new poker talent into the UB sponsorship forefront, but no announcements have been made yet of who that can be. He did state, “UB has a whole new look and feel for our team, and ou newest signing exemplifies that, so stay tuned for that announcement next week. Going to be a bit of a doozy.”
