A new member has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Poker Players Alliance. Patrick Fleming who recently was the director of the PPA Litigation Support Network was selected with near unanimous vote. Many board members are pleased with this vote including former Senator Alfonse D’Amato who is the chairman of the PPA.
Fleming is a private practice attorney in Portsmouth, NH. He specializes in criminal defense and civil rights litigation. His legal expertise will surely help PPA members fight through the current cloudy legal status that involves online poker. Fleming learned how to play poker from his father when he was just a child. He frequently played the game throughout college and law school. He first found online poker in 2004 and frequently played under his screen name, “skallagrim.”
Fleming joined the Poker Players Alliance after he saw the government trying to restrict the rights to play poker over the internet when they passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). From the start, he was able to leverage his legal knowledge to challenge the legality of the new restrictions. It was his suggestion that cause the PPA to create the Litigation Support Network which assists members who find themselves involved with legal issues in relation to playing poker.
It is said that without Fleming’s help, the Poker Players Alliance would not be as fortunate in a legal perspective. His expertise has had a large impact on court cases across the nation. Without the formation of the Litigation Support Network, internet poker players would not have the protection they do now when it comes to playing a game of Texas hold ‘Em at their very own homes.
Adding Fleming to the Board of Directors is a breath of fresh air for the poker community. He will be sure to provide quality insights and ideas to help future legal issues regarding the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
