Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada received an interesting letter this week. The writer is Attorney General-Elect Steve Grossman of Massachusetts. Grossman, who has not been a proponent of the proposed online gaming legislation being considered by Reid, made his position clear.
Forbes.com reported that Grossman wrote to Reid expressing his concerns over the online gaming bill and its consequences. In his letter, he writes: “The bill could jeopardize the $900 million worth of state aid the Lottery returns to cities and towns.” He uses the example that more than 85 percent of Lottery sales are for instant games and Keno, which are in direct competition with online gambling. Grossman uses this argument to try to convince Reid to begin a “serious conversation” about online gambling.
