World Poker Tour Announces 2012 Season XI Schedule
The dates for half of the 2012 World Poker Tour (WPT) season are set. There’s exciting news as the international schedule has been expanded with new stops in the US, Denmark and Morocco.
Commenting on the increased number of events, Steve Heller, WPT CEO, said, “The World Poker Tour is committed to extending its global reach. Not only will Season XI feature new stops in the US and abroad, but World Poker Tour is also widely expanding our Regional and National Series to deliver the WPT experience to as many players and fans as possible.”
New Poker Venues
The latest poker venues to be added to the WPT include the WPT Parx Open Poker Classic in Philadelphia (Bensalem), the WPT Copenhagen in Denmark and the WPT Mazagan in Morocco. The initial event will be held August 4-9, 2012, as the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic ($4,000 + $400 = $4,400) is held at the Merit-grand Hotel. The WPT Regional and National Schedule begins with the WPT Regional Florida as part of the STAX Poker Lounge Summer Series. The $400 + $40 = $440 event will be held June 7-10.
Other Poker Events
Once Cyprus has been completed, the tour travels to its first new venue on the schedule, Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The first ever WPT Parx Open Poker Classic starts August 10 and concludes on August 15, 2012. The buy-in is $3,500 and this offering includes a re-entry option, which some players love and others simply hate. With the re-entry, a player may be eliminated in the first day only to return again the next.
The WPT Parx Open Poker Classic is the first televised final table of the tour. Many of the classics, including the Legends of Poker, Borgata Poker Open, and Five Diamond World Poker Classic, are scheduled to run also.
WPT and WSOP
There are 11 stops schedule on the tour with five of those including televised final tables. With an expanded tour season and 13 scheduled national and regional tournaments, the World Poker Tour is looking to make its mark once the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas has run its course. The WSOP, which is considered to be the biggest and most prestigious poker tournament in the world, includes 61 events and runs from Sunday, May 27, 2012 to Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. One thing is for sure—there’s a lot of great poker right on the horizon!
