After vigorous play this past weekend, the November Nine quickly dwindled down to the final two. The final table began play in Las Vegas’ Penn & Teller Theatre just after noon on Saturday. The nine players remaining entered the largest stage for poker – all whom which had their eye on a $9 million prize.
The chip leader at the beginning of this weekend’s play ended up holding his leader spot at the end. His opponent for heads up play on Monday was John Racener, after a three handed blowup by Cheong.
Action took place quickly amongst the November Nine when Soi Nguyen opened with an all-in bet on the 28th hand. Jason Senti quickly called this action from the small blind. After the dust settled for the hand, Nguyen found himself short handed compared to Senti’s trip queens on the flop.
Next to leave the table was Matthew Jarvis who went all in on a pre-flop bet of pocket 9’s. Michael Mizrachi was feeling good about his hand of Ace-Queen and made the call. The flop came out strong adding two more queens to Mizrachi’s powerhouse hand. That wasn’t the end of this exciting hand though. Out came the turn which produced a 9 adding to Jarvis’ hand giving him a full house. Mizrachi felt the swift hand of luck brush his face as the river came out with an ace giving Mizrachi the upper hand full house.
This type of play and excitement was apparent all day long, but left only the two in the end. Jonathon Duhamel and John Racener made it to the final table to play heads up for the big cash prize of almost $9 million and the right to call themselves one of the best pokers players to ever live.
