Gus Hansen made it through a minefield final table of elite tournament poker players to win another major live poker tournament. Friday night Gus took down the Full Tilt Poker Million IX and the $1 million cash prize. This win has the Dane ending the year on a very positive upswing , including his recent high stakes cash game success.
The final table consisted of Patrik Antonius, Howard Lederer, Seth Webber, 2010 WSOP Europe Main Event winner James Bord, Barney Boatman, Gary Peniket, and Tony “The Lizard” Bloom. Gus’ final opponent was the Brit Tony Bloom, but Hansen’s A8 easily crushed Bloom’s A6 and secured the title for one of poker’s most famous faces.
The Full Tilt Poker Million IX is a shootout style tournament. 48 players took to the felt this year in London in July. The winner of each of those tables advanced to the final table, which was played on Dec 11th. Each winner of the preliminary shootout table won $90,000 and the seat at the final table for the prize of $1 million.
Gus’ live tournament winnings are now believed to be greater than $9 million, according to online poker databases. He’s in 15th place overall, just ahead of 2010 WSOP Main Event winner, Jonathan Duhamel. As one of the main spokespeople for Full Tilt Poker , Gus doesn’t play a full tournament schedule so this big win and his total lifetime earnings are quite impressive.
