The World Poker Tour Foxwoods World Poker Open final table proved to bring the player’s ‘A’ game. You had a good mix of poker superstars like Mohsin Charania, Keven Stammen, and Tom Marchese along with unexpected unknowns Nikolai Yahovenko, Jeff Forrest, and Dave Inselberg.
Even though this was Jeff Forrest’s first World Poker Tour tournament, it didn’t show in his play. He was the least experienced out of the lot, but this didn’t stop him from dominating the game. At horrible odds facing three poker millionaires, Forrest still was able to get past the five remaining players to claim the championship. His exciting game style led him to nearly $550,000 of winnings for the tourney.
Forrest didn’t come into the day with the chip lead though. Marchese held this spot as long as he could, but it proved just not to be his day. This was especially apparent on his final hand (ace king) in which he found himself facing Jeff’s king six. The flop quickly showed a 6 which led Forrest to the hand win and left Marchese finished in the tournament coming in 3rd place overall. Marchese was still able to pocket over $200,000 of winnings and 990 POY points. This gave him a ranking lead of 750 points more than Dwyte Pilgrim.
Jeff finished off the tournament taking down second place finisher Dave Inselberg. Inselberg finished the tournament with over $325,000 in winnings. Congratulations to Jeff for his big win. He should prove to be a formidable opponent for poker players to keep their eye on in the future.
