On Tuesday morning around 4 AM, an armed man walked into the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas . He approached the craps table wearing a motorcycle helmet, and scooped up cash from the table along with chips. A report issued by the Las Vegas police department and Bellagio staff estimated the amount stolen was $1.5 million in chips. The amount of cash taken was unknown.
A related incident on December 9th was reported, where a motorcycle helmeted man, armed, stole about $20,000 in chips at the Suncoast Casino poker room. In both robberies, the motorcycle was parked nearby the casino entrance, and the suspect was described as a white male of 5 feet 10 inches. Police have alerted the public with a 12 second video of the man leaving the Suncoast Casino.
Police have said that they are looking for anyone trying to cash a large amount of Bellagio chops. A spokesperson for the Bellagio MGM Resorts International pointed out that chips are not the same thing as cash, and “At some point they have to be redeemed.”
